METRO Wholesale Myanmar: First Foreign Direct Investment Wholesaler to Receive HACCP Certification
METRO Wholesale Myanmar is leading the way in food safety practices by implementing food safety initiatives in Myanmar.
YANGON, MYANMAR, 20 September 2019 – METRO Wholesale Myanmar, the country’s leading wholesale company for food and non-food assortment, has received a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) Certification after going through rigorous audit process for two days in August, 2019.
METRO Myanmar is the first company to receive HACCP certification in foreign direct investment wholesaler sector in Myanmar.

METRO Wholesale Myanmar went through an auditing process from Myanmar Bureau Veritas Ltd., a subsidiary of a French-based global leading certification agency. There were two steps of HACCP certification process that the company had to go through in late August. After passing the initial audit step, the auditor checked every facilities and supply chain management of METRO warehouse in Thilawa SEZ.
“METRO Myanmar’s state-of-the-art warehouse was built and set up with global best practices in Food Service delivery in Thilawa Special Economic Zone,” said Mr. Ajay Pohare, Head of Quality Assurance, METRO Wholesale Myanmar. “During our HACCP certification process, the auditors have reviewed our system from receiving, processing and storage to delivery steps, and also interacted with our employees to ensure METRO Myanmar is maintaining every processes against the HACCP requirements and standards. HACCP certified wholesaler means that our products are fresh, best quality and hazardous free and we will continue to work hard to raise the bar of food safety in Myanmar together with our suppliers, partners and authorities.”
As a foreign direct investment wholesale company in Myanmar, METRO Wholesale Myanmar is working on to source 75% of its resources locally.
In 2018, The METRO Wholesale Myanmar QA department facilitated basic training on HACCP and GMP (Good manufacturing practices) to their sea food supplier and Chicken processing plant. Simultaneously by the end of 2018, the company has initiated Good Agricultural Practices (G.A.P) trainings to their 200 fruits and vegetables farmers and potential suppliers in Aung Ban, Shan State and Pwint Phyu, Magwe Division.
Out of the 200 farmers who received GAP trainings, 62 farmers have been awarded Myanmar’s Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) certifications from the Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation (MoALI).
